Invitation to the lecture...

As part of the UWIN-LABUST project, the Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies in collaboration with the IEEE Croatia Section - Robotics and Automation Chapter, the IEEE OES University of Zagreb Student Branch Chapter and IEEE Life Member Affinity Group - Croatia is happy to invite you to the lecture

"Technologies for underwater surveying: Workflow for 3D reconstruction of UCH sites"

held by Engr. Umberto Severino - Ph.D. student, Department of Mechanical, Energetic and Management Engineering (DIMEG), University of Calabria, Arcavacata di Rende, Italy. The lecture will take place on Friday, July 14th, 2023 at 10:00 in the LABUST pool laboratory, Martinovka building, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER). The lecture is in English.

The lecturer’s CV and the summary of the lecture can be found below.

Abstract:

After a brief practical introduction to technologies for underwater surveying, the workshop will cover the typical workflow for reconstructing a three-dimensional scene in the context of Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) sites. In particular, the focus will be on passive optical technologies and the image filtering process for structure-from-motion (SfM) reconstruction preparation. During the workshop, the procedure will be demonstrated on Adobe Camera Raw and Agisoft Metashape software. The seminar+workshop is a Knowledge Transfer Activity (KTA) planned within the H2020 MSCA - Tectonic project to facilitate knowledge transfer and sharing between the partners.

Brief bio:

Umberto Severino is a Ph.D. student in Industrial and Civil Engineering (DICI) at the University of Calabria (Italy). He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2018 at DIMEG, University of Calabria, and was licensed as a senior industrial engineer in 2019. He has collaborated with various spin-offs of the University of Calabria, including 3D Research s.r.l. and Applicon s.r.l.. Currently, he is involved in the H2020 MSCA - Tectonic project, conducting research activities on VO/SLAM algorithms applied to ROV navigation at H2O Robotics Ltd. in Zagreb. His research interests encompass computer vision, artificial intelligence, underwater acoustic localization, and mechanical design of underwater devices, and he recently filed a patent as a co-inventor with Leonardo S.p.A.
