Abstract

The Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies (LAPOST) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (FER), has positioned itself as the regional leader in maritime robotics through participation in numerous research projects that have enabled the acquisition of equipment, researchers, and extensive research experience. What LABUST lacks is an adequate research infrastructure that would enable full use of existing resources to bring LABUST to the level of competitiveness with leading international institutions in the field of marine robotics. In synergy with the Horizon 2020 Twinning project EXCELLABUST, INFRA-LAPOST project will significantly enhance the LABUST research infrastructure in the field of marine robotics through the construction of an experimental pool and associated research areas.

Excellence

Through the H2020 Twinning project "EXCELLABUST - Excelling LABUST in Marine Robotics" LABUST has further increased the scientific excellence and innovation capacity in the field of marine robotics and increased its research involvement and visibility through strengthening links with the industry and end-users from different multidisciplinary fields. LABUST is, therefore, a centre with a critical mass of researchers and equipment, and represents a unique maritime robotics research centre in the region.

Impact

The INFRA-LAPOST project will significantly contribute to the quality of LABUST research activities that are aligned with the national research strategies, regional strategies and European strategies. LABUST has paid a great deal of attention to cooperation with the industry through technology transfer and joint research, thus achieving a multiplier effect in terms of infrastructure sustainability and research results.

Implementation - goals and achievements

The implementation of the INFRA-LAPOST project consists of the following activities: construction of the experimental tank, reconstruction and furnishing of a space around the tank to create functional and comfortable research environment, procurement of relevant scientific research equipment, and project visibility.
