LABUST has taken part in many scientific research projects relating to underwater systems and technologies in various roles. This includes numerous international (FP7, H2020, ONRG, INTERREG,...) as well as national projects.
Members of LABUST Associate Professor Roee Diamant, Marijan Vonić and Filip Bogdanović took part in field tests and a live demonstration of technology for detecting illegal blast fishing in the Philippines, in partnership with WildAid, ANL - University of Haifa and the Philippine Coast Guard.
The mission ran from 27 October to 6 November 2025 in the Narra coastal area on Palawan Island. During a three-day test phase, the team recorded controlled explosions using LABUST-developed equipment. The detection system included buoy pair with four suspended underwater hydrophones and a pair of submerged floaters. Following additional setup and coordination with local law enforcement, the system was deployed in a protected zone for blast monitoring and enforcement support.
