Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies (LABUST), CoE MARBLE, and IEEE OES University of Zagreb Student Branch Chapter invite you to a talk "Underwater Legged Robotics: A Bio-Inspired Approach to Marine Operations" held by Marcello Calisti, Associate Professor of BioRobotics from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (Italy), as part of the MARBLE project.

The lecture will take place on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025 at 10 a.m. at FER, Grey Hall. The lecture will be held in person in English language and is estimated to last 60 minutes, including questions.

A summary of the lecture can be found below.

This talk explores the development and application of bio-inspired underwater legged robots designed to operate in complex marine environments. Drawing inspiration from the locomotion strategies of benthic organisms such as crabs and octopuses, these systems combine the adaptability of legged movement with the robustness required for submerged operations. The study discusses design principles, control strategies, and experimental results demonstrating enhanced stability, manoeuvrability, and environmental interaction compared to conventional propeller-based platforms. This approach aims to advance underwater exploration, inspection, and ecological monitoring through complementary strategies to conventional underwater robotic solutions.
