Doppler effect estimation experiment...

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, the UWIN-LABUST group collaborated with researchers from the University of Trento, Italy.

They performed a Doppler effect estimation experiment at “Brodarski institut” (Engl. Ship Institute) in the heart of Zagreb, Croatia.

By analyzing the deformations in frequency modulated signals, the relative velocity between the transmitter and the receiver can be estimated.

The experiment was performed in a hydrodynamical pool spanning over 270 m in length, one of the largest in Europe.

"Brodarski institut" has been involved in many innovations in its 80 years of history in shipbuilding, marine weapon systems and fundamental research in hydrodynamics and mathematical physics.

The institute is soon to be renovated and will serve as a headquarters for the project "CoE MARBLE - Centre of Excellence in Maritime Robotics and Technologies for Sustainable Blue Economy".

This project will breathe new life into the institute and spearhead Croatia (and all visiting research groups) into becoming a leader in marine technology and blue economy.
